August 30 – Recreational Water Safety Lecture
On August 30 Shepherd University will host a lecture entitled, How Safe Is Your Recreational Water?, as part of their President’s Lecture Series.
Amy J. Horneman, Ph.D., SM(ASCP), associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Microbiology Lab director at the VA Maryland Health Care System, will discuss the safety of various types of recreational water sources in the region.
Dr. Horneman will provide an overview of some of the possible health hazards that swimmers, boaters, and fishing enthusiasts could possibly come in contact with. She will also explain how to participate in these activities safely.
The lecture is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
September 8 – Source Water Protection Plans Public Hearing
Get involved protecting your local drinking water! Water providers for Charles Town, Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown will hold a public hearing on their source water protection plans at 6 p.m., September 8, at the Jefferson County Health Services Center, 1948 Wiltshire Rd., Kearneysville, WV.
