Citizen groups participate in SB373 implementation talks

This morning, the Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) brought together a group of citizen groups, small businesses and industry representatives to discuss the challenges of implementing the Aboveground Storage Tank component of Senate Bill 373, a bill that passed unanimously through both houses, was lauded by the Governor and supported by citizens.

Citizen groups that participated in the discussion said, “we are appreciative to the DEP and Governor’s offices for bringing people together to discuss alternatives to the special session.  We support DEP’s efforts to craft workable transitional measures that meet the public expectation of all tanks being inspected by the January 1st deadline.”

Citizen groups that participated included West Virginia River’s Coalition, People Concerned About Chemical Safety, West Virginia Citizen Action Group, Charleston Branch of the NAACP, West Virginia Citizens Actively Protecting the Environment and Advocates for a Safe Drinking Water System.
