West Virginia's Department of Environmental Protection Issues Emergency Rules Regulating Horizontail Drilling

The WV DEP has released and signed in to law temporary rules which regulate horizontal drilling. The rules will be effective for 15 months and will only regulate horizontal drilling; they will not cover shallow vertical wells or vertical wells that tap into the Marcellus Shale. The temporary rules address issues such as water management, sediment control, safety and public notification. The rules will be in effect until the WV legislature passes permanent legislation or the rules expire.

To see the rules follow this link.
