How do I participate?
If you would like to participate in the West Virginia Consumer Drug Return Partnership program please contact Shanda Minney at sminney@wvrivers.org or at 304-637-7201.
How much does it cost to participate?
The program is currently funded through a combination of grants and private donations. Funding allowing, pharmacies may participate in the program free of charge unless they go over the allotted quota of take-back boxes.
How many boxes will I receive?
Participating pharmacies receive three (3) 20 gallon take-back boxes each year they take part in the West Virginia Consumer Drug Return Partnership. We anticipate this volume will cover the needs of most pharmacies. Additional 20 gallon boxes may be purchased from West Virginia Rivers Coalition for $120 each.
What can pharmacies accept?
Private consumers can bring any pharmaceutical they have in their home excluding controlled substances. Liquids, creams and ointments are accepted as long as they are less than 4 oz. Over The Counter medications and prescriptions may be collected.
How do I request more boxes?

What happens to the boxes once they are full?
Once a take-back box is filled we will help you arrange for secure collection through UPS. The take-back box along with its contents will be incinerated at a certified waste to energy plant.
