I grew up in Rockville, Maryland where at a young age I found my calling in the outdoors. If I wasn't in school, I was out exploring the rivers and trails near my childhood home. At age 16, with a freshly printed driver's license secured in my wallet, my friends and I set our sights on West Virginia - America's whitewater paddling gem. On summer weekends I was likely to be found out on one of the classics: the Cheat, the Tygart, or the New.
After high school, I left the east coast for college receiving a degree in Cell Biology at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. My formal education complete, I focused on what I really wanted to do: guiding others in the outdoors and sharing with them the beauty and adventure of wild places.
For the last six years I've been working as an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School based in Lander, Wyoming. Through my work, I've paddled some amazing rivers and met some great people. I met Matt on a two week trip on the Green and San Juan rivers of Utah last spring, and it was on that trip that the idea for an expedition on one of our beloved home rivers began to take shape.
